Thousands ring in 2016 at MoonPie over Mobile

The crowds were thick on a chilly New Year's Eve in downtown Mobile for "MoonPie Over Mobile." An enormous Moon Pie cake was cut shortly before 10 p.m. in front of the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel Courtyard and then Mobile's legendary Excelsior Band lead a second-line parade to Bienville Square.
1990s R&B ensemble En Vogue kept the party going with a free concert past midnight. As the lit Moon Pie descended from the top of the RSA Trustmark Building, the sky lit up with fireworks and the crowd was showered with confetti.
