No. 3 North Dakota State won its fifth straight FCS national championship with a 37-10 win over No. 1 Jacksonville State on Saturday at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
The Gamecocks (13-2) were pursuing their first championship since a Division II title in 1992. It was the only loss to an FCS foe, as JSU lost at Auburn earlier this year. The Bison finished at 13-2.
NDSU quarterback Carson Wentz returned after missing nearly three months with a wrist injury. He threw for 197 yards and a score and ran for 79 yards and two scores.
JSU, which was down 24-0 at half, scored on a 6-yard third quarter run by Eli Jenkins and a 26-yard field goal in the third from Connor Rouleau.
Jenkins hit just 7-of-20 passes for 57 yards and two interceptions and ran for 88 yards on 15 carries. NDSU outgained JSU 379-204.
