Qualifying ends for Mississippi congressional races

JACKSON, Miss. (AP)

The field is set for Mississippi's Republican and Democratic congressional primaries.

Friday was candidates' filing deadline for U.S. House races. Primaries are March 8.

— In the northern 1st District, Rep. Trent Kelly is challenged in the Republican primary by Paul Clever. One Democrat, Jacob Aaron Owens, is running.

— In the 2nd District in the Delta and Jackson, Rep. Bennie Thompson is unopposed in the Democratic primary. Republican John Bouie II is running, although lives outside the district.

— In the central 3rd District, Rep. Gregg Harper has one Republican primary challenger, Jim Giles. Democrats running in the 3rd are Dennis Quinn and Nathan Stewart.

—In the southern 4th District, Rep. Steven Palazzo is unopposed in the Republican primary. Mark Dey Gladney is running as a Democrat.
