Homeowner describes scary home invasion; 2 teens arrested - says he will now buy a gun for first tim
FOLEY, AL (WALA)
FOX10 News has learned more about a scary home invasion and robberies in Foley last week. The suspects were arrested a short time later with the help of a canine unit, but the victims are left shaken.
“The perpetrators walked in here, stood side by side, held the guns on everybody. There were four or five people sitting at the table. The rest were sitting on stools around,” explained homeowner, Bob Webb.
The home invasion happened on Wednesday, January 13, 2015, but Webb remembers it like it was yesterday. He was hosting a home owner’s association meeting at his house in Ashford Park when two armed men came through the front door. He said a couple of his guests screamed and another made his way out of a bedroom window, but no one got on the floor as commanded.
“Nobody got on the floor. One of the ladies screamed and then the guy running, I think the combination of those three things rattled them and they decided they needed to go,” Webb said.
While Webb and his frightened company waited on police to arrive, investigators said the suspects regrouped and went after an easier target. Less than an hour later police said the same two men approached a woman in the Walgreens parking lot on Highway 59, stole her wallet and ran on foot. A witness chased after them.
“They pulled a gun on that witness and they got away,” said Capt. David White with Foley Police.
Police were still casing the area after the home invasion and responded quickly. White said one of the suspects was spotted near the scene and tried to run, fighting with officers.
“The canine officer deployed his canine and subdued the subject and arrested him at that time,” White said.
Police arrested 18-year-old Corey Jones and charged him with robbery first and several other charges. Through the investigation, police identified and arrested the second suspect, 18-year-old Darius Prim in Gulf Shores.
Police recovered the stolen wallet, a 22 caliber rifle and pistol and two replica machine guns. Both suspects face multiple felony charges.
Web said things happened so fast that it’s hard to know if anyone would have done anything differently. There is one major change he does plan to make in his life.
“I’ve never owned a gun in my life, but I will by the end of the day today,” Webb said.
Both Corey Jones and Darius Prim had previous warrants on separate robbery charges.
Members of the Ashford Park Home Owners Association said they’re grateful for the good police work and said they’ve been offered ongoing counseling.
