The Alabama attorney's general office is paying an outside legal firm up to nearly $1 million for legal help in a criminal case, but will not say which one.
Records show the office hired Spotswood, Sansom and Sansbury to provide research, advice, legal writing and support.
The Decatur Daily reports that prosecutor Matt Hart told the legislative contract review committee Wednesday that it involved a criminal case.
Joy Patterson, a spokeswoman for the attorney general, said the office could not comment.
The attorney general's office hired the company on Oct 27, 2014. An extension bumped the contract value to up to $990,000.
The Birmingham law firm's website says it specializes in assistance in complex litigation. The firm is also assisting in the governor's federal lawsuit over refugee placement.
