PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - A Jackson County grand jury has indicted an Ocean Springs man accused of setting fire to his parents' home and firing a shotgun at responding police officers.
The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1RpqFTm) 53-year-old Timothy Beaugez is out of jail on bond on two counts of felony aggravated assault on a police officer and one count each of first-degree arson and shooting into a dwelling.
Beaugez has pleaded not guilty.
Police said Beaugez used gasoline to set fire to the wood-framed home on Oct. 9, 2013, while his father, a retired Jackson County Court judge and Ocean Springs police officer -- along with other relatives -- were inside.
Beaugez's family escaped safely, but Timothy Beaugez remained inside until police arrived.
The fire gutted a portion of the family's home.
