GULFPORT, MS (WLOX)

A summer evening drive home from work in Gulfport turned into a split-second nightmare for Christine Gordon.

"Suddenly, I didn't know what was going on. My car was hit and I was still circling," said Gordon.

It happened so fast, Gordon didn't have time to process the accident. All she knew is that she may not come out of it alive.

After the first impact, Gordon was sent spinning again.

"After the second time my car was hit and was still moving, I looked up toward the sky and said 'I'm about to die,'" said Gordon.

That's when her car finally came to a stop in the east entrance of Jones Park. She didn't know it yet, but Gordon's car was totaled and her leg was crushed from the impact.

Responders had to remove Gordon through the back of her car and begin treatment immediately.

"They explained to me that the person had run the red light," said Gordon, who soon after came face to face with the man who almost took her life. "He was just mumbling, and grappling for his cell phone trying to call someone."

The driver was charged with driving under the influence, and Gordon spent the next five months in physical therapy. She considers herself blessed that it didn't end worse.

As a holiday approaches, Gordon wants to spread a message of safety.

"Please, please, please. I beg people to have safe transportation and make arrangements," said Gordon, who doesn't want anyone else to have to suffer at the hands of a drunk driver. "Not just for yourself, but for someone else that may be innocent and may be injured or worse," said Gordon.

Gordon and law enforcement officials want to remind drivers that buzzed driving is still drunk driving, and to be responsible throughout the holiday season.
