Police are searching for two suspects accused of killing a homeowner's pit bull during an armed robbery attempt.
Gulfport police Sgt. Damon Damon McDaniel said police responded to a report of shots fired at a residence in the 300 block of Debuys Road about 7:26 p.m. Tuesday.
An investigation revealed that a woman heard knocking on her door and opened it to find a man pointing a gun at her head. McDaniel said the woman began to scream as the man forced his way into her home. And that's when her pit bull attacked the suspect.
Another suspect then entered the residence. Both men shot and killed the dog and then fled on foot, McDaniel said.
The house was struck with bullets during the gunfire, but the victim and other house guests weren't injured.
One suspect was described as a male wearing a hoodie with a mask over his face.
McDaniel said both suspects are considered armed and dangerous.
