A Tuscaloosa County judge has upheld Tuscaloosa’s system for ticketing drivers failing to stop at red lights.
The Tuscaloosa News (http://bit.ly/1ZxXDCs ) reports that Circuit Court Judge John England’s ruled last week that the city’s red-light camera enforcement law is not unconstitutional.
Resident Tim Burch had filed a civil suit after receiving a ticket in 2014, arguing that the city isn’t required to prove who was driving a vehicle at the time of a violation before issuing a ticket.
England agreed with city attorneys that the system promotes public safety by fining vehicle owners who go through red lights.
Burch’s attorney says they plan to appeal.
