Tanger Outlets mark extended growth for busier Southaven

SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC) -
It has been over a month since the Tanger Outlets opened in Southaven, and business has been booming for the mall and the entire city.
Shoppers packed the outlets while doing some last minute Christmas shopping. Many call the new mall a boost to Southaven’s already growing economy.
“It's a good thing, especially for this area,” resident Faye Eckwood said.
Tanger is averaging around 35 to 40 thousand shoppers per week, and even nearby businesses are benefiting.
“It helps the restaurants down the street to grow in their business,” Eckwood said.
However, the growth does bring some negative consequences. Many people in Southaven said traffic is much more congested.
“It's too small of an area,” Kimberly Bartwell said. “For all of these people trying to get into this little bitty area.”
Despite this, residents are hoping this is only the beginning for an already bustling Southaven.
“It's been wonderful,” Eckwood said. “It's been busy; it's been steady.”
