Trial date set for MSU students accused of trying to join ISIS
STARKVILLE, MS (WMC) -
Two former Mississippi State University students will face a judge next year.
Jaelyn Young, 19, and Muhammad Dakhlalla, 22, are accused of trying to leave the country to join ISIS. The couple will go to trial June 6. Both studied at Mississippi State; Young was a sophomore chemistry major and Dakhlalla recently graduated with a degree in psychology.
The couple was arrested in August when they tried to travel to Turkey. Undercover FBI agents contacted them through social media to learn more about their plans.
Young and Dakhalla were arrested at Golden Triangle Airport in Columbus, Mississippi.
The couple has until May 23 to reach a plea deal instead of going to trial.
Both were denied bond and are charged with aiding terrorists.
