Mississippi 1 of 7 states to lose population July 2014-15

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -

Mississippi is one of seven states that lost population during the year that started July 1, 2014.

The Census Bureau says Tuesday that Mississippi lost 1,110 residents during that year. That was four-one-hundreds of 1 percent of the state's population. And, it was the fourth-largest population drop of any state.

Illinois, West Virginia and Connecticut lost more residents during that time than Mississippi.

The other states with a decrease - in order after Mississippi - were Maine, Vermont and New Mexico.

Texas grew more than any state during that year, with 490,036 new residents.

North Dakota had the largest percentage increase, with a jump of 2.3 percent of its population.
