Tupelo welcomes home Chart Topping Duo - Rae Sremmurd

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Hundreds flocked to BancorpSouth Arena last night for Sremm Fest. Which featured two of Tupelo's very own, Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi of Rae Sremmurd.

"We work hard, we always put all out time and a lot of our energy into music," Slim Jxmmi said. "And that was from the time we were small until now."

Many know the artists for their chart topping hits, "No Type" and "No Flex Zone".

But before catching a break that turned them into international stars, the two brothers were just two boys from Tupelo.

Then after moving to Atlanta their life changed drastically for the best.

"It's very possible to go from nothing to something, you know what I am saying," Swae Lee said. "Especially in this day and age. You got all these tools, you got YouTube, you got Instagram. Don't let nothing stop you."

Their album which came out last January debuted at number 5 on the US Billboard 200 album chart.

Now they express what it's like to be back in the All-America City after reaching success.

"I didn't realize how small it was until I came back," said Slim Jxmmi. "But then at the same time this where all my family is all my friends are. So I love being in Tupelo, It's great coming back to Tupelo."

Slim Jxmmi also expressed what his music means to him.

"If you are doing what you love then you are going to never be bored," Slim Jxmmi added. "And you are never going to get tired of doing it."

While they were in town they were also awarded a key to the city by Tupelo Mayor, Jason Shelton.
