The Alabama Department of Transportation in the Mobile area issued an alert to those who travel the causeway on Thursday morning.
A deceased, 10-foot alligator occluded traffic and caused people to look at the reptile.
ALDOT officials were in the process of removing it before 8 a.m.
The alligator was likely struck by a vehicle.
Rep. Bradley Byrne took to Twitter to comment on the alligator.
"These are the type of things you only hear about in Southwest Alabama," said Byrne.
