Ole Miss Star DL Nkemdiche recovering after fall from window

ATLANTA, GA (WMC) -

Ole Miss defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche is recovering after falling from an Atlanta, Georgia, hotel room window.

Atlanta police said Nkemdiche was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Officers found a small amount of suspected marijuana in the hotel room.

They found the window broken and said it appears Nkemdiche broke the window, walked 15 feet and climbed over a wall, falling about 15 feet.

Nkemdiche is a projected first rounder in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Ole Miss Head Coach Hugh Freeze release a statement on the issue:

"We are still learning about the matter, but obviously Robert's wellbeing is our greatest concern."

Ole Miss fans said they are happy Nkemdiche is okay, but they are unclear about exactly what happened.

Nkemdiche’s brother Denzel was in intensive care last month for reasons currently still unknown.

After Atlanta Police found marijuana in Robert’s room, Ole Miss fans said the brothers need to focus on football.

"What he does off the field doesn't concern me as long as he's ready to play on Saturday and for the bowl game,” said Ole Miss student Alex Everett.

The Rebels are set to begin practice for the Sugar Bowl Monday before they take on Oklahoma State on January 1.

The junior Nkemdiche had 28 tackles and three sacks this season and was named an AP All-American Sunday. He also chipped in on offense, scoring three touchdowns.

"The first think I thought of was the sugar bowl and he's one of our best players,” Everett said.

Other students are just glad he is okay.

"I am happy he's okay and I hope he gets better soon and can play,” said student Caleb Robinson.

Nkemdiche was part of the Ole Miss defense that ranked in the top three in the SEC and top 22 nationally in tackles for loss, interceptions and takeaways.

"He wears the uniform so he definitely represents the university, but I don't think his actions represent the whole university," Everett said.
