A 4-pound miniature Yorkie stolen from a Mountain Brook home nearly one week ago is now back with her family.
Natalie McDonald, whose 1-year-old Roxy was snatched along with crate during a burglary at their Cherokee Bend home last Monday, posted on Facebook late Saturday night that Roxy had been recovered. "Because she was taken during a break-in at our home, law enforcement advised us not to divulge the details of her recovery,'' she wrote.
The McDonald family several days ago announced a $1,000 reward for Roxy's return. The break-in happened between 1:30 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. at McDonald's home on Olds Leeds Road. Roxy, a teacup Biewer Yorkie, was in her crate because she had been digging in the mud and was awaiting a bath.
McDonald said they were gone less than two hours when they returned home to discover the burglary and Roxy gone. "We are heartbroken,'' McDonald said in an earlier interview.
"We want to tell everyone who spent time looking for Roxy, sharing our story, and having our back through all of it THANK YOU! We are overwhelmed with the love and support that we've received this week from the people in our community and beyond,'' McDonald wrote. "So much of it came from people that we don't know and have never met. What started with a crime committed by one, or a few bad individuals, opened our eyes to the huge number of caring, supportive, and really good-hearted people that live all around us. We are so happy to have our little doggy back in time for Christmas. It would not be possible if it weren't for all of you. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! And Merry Christmas to everyone!"
