Jr. High Students charged after homemade bomb found at school
WARREN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Two kids are charged after a homemade bomb was found at Warren Central Junior High School on Wednesday.
Vicksburg Police Chief Armstrong says they are currently being held in the Vicksburg-Warren County Juvenile Detention Center and they are expected to see a juvenile court judge on Thursday.
Their names are not being released because of their age.
One student has been charged with possession of an explosive device and possession of a weapon. The second student has been charged with possession of a weapon, also. The students were reportedly carrying knives.
A search warrant was executed Wednesday at around 5:30 pm at one of the kid’s houses. Materials to make an IED were found.
Chief Armstrong says had the IED had gone off it would have caused little to no damage.
Police responded just after noon on Wednesday to reports of a bomb at the school and the students were immediately evacuated.
A K-9 discovered an IED in a back pack in one of the buildings.
It was successfully detonated by the Clinton Bomb Squad.
Chief Armstrong says he is proud of the response time of law enforcement to the situation at the school.
