Woman to repay $10K+ in stolen mail, identity theft case
GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — A woman has been ordered to repay about $10,500 in a federal case of stolen mail and identity theft.
27-year-old Megan Murley of Marlin, Texas, is one of five people indicted in May on a conspiracy charge involving checks stolen from mail boxes in Harrison County, Mississippi.
The indictment says the victims' financial information was put on counterfeit checks used to buy merchandise at Wal-Mart stores in Biloxi, Pass Christian, and Crowley, Texas. The purchases included electronics, gift cards, prepaid credit cards, food and clothes.
The indictment accused all five defendants of conspiring to commit the crimes from Oct. 4, 2013, through Nov. 18, 2014.
Murley pleaded guilty July 13. In addition to making restitution, she was also sentenced Nov. 30 to three years of probation.
