Mother asks DeSoto County leaders to pass law protecting teens from caffeine pill overdose

DESOTO COUNTY, MS (WMC) -

North Mississippi residents are working hard to push for a new bill to prevent kids and teens from overdosing on caffeine pills.

Noah's Law is named after 17-year-old Noah Smith. He died from a caffeine pill overdose in his mother's backyard in 2013.

Noah's mother, Jennifer Westmoreland, made an emotional plea to DeSoto County officials Monday night, asking them to adopt the law.

"Yes, it will help us find some closure," Westmoreland said. "But at this point, it's about the other children in Mississippi. It's about the ones who are still walking and breathing."

Westmoreland said 14 Mississippi counties already put Noah's law into effect.
