Ocean Springs woman accused of embezzling $91,000 from vulnerable adult
OCEAN SPRINGS, Mississippi
Ocean Springs police have arrested a 27-year-old Ocean Springs woman and charged her with embezzling $91,000 from an infirmed man who had hired her to help him.
According to Ocean Springs Police Capt. Chuck Jackson, police were notified on Nov. 2 of the possible embezzlement. After investigation by Det. Matthew Morvant, it was determined that Ashley Ann Bandyk had been hired by the victim, who needed help with daily tasks and finances due to his medical conditions.
Bandyk used a fraudulent business name to create a PayPal account and transferred funds from the victim's account to the PayPal account, authorities said.
Bandyk was arrested Tuesday and charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
She is currently in the Ocean Springs Municipal Jail under a $200,000 bond set by Municipal Court Judge Matthew Mestayer.
