Outside the 'South": Lindsey Lohan's step-mother accused of threatening to slit passeng
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -
A woman accused of threatening to slit a passenger's throat and forcing a plane to land in New Orleans, is now charged with a federal crime.
Kate Major-Lohan, step mother of actress Lindsey Lohan, was a passenger on a JetBlue flight from Ft. Lauderdale to Los Angeles Nov. 25.
Court documents say she became disruptive when a flight attendant told her to move her seat to an upright position before takeoff.
Witnesses say Major-Lohan threatened two passengers, telling one she would "slit her throat." According to court documents, witnesses also say she threw a cell phone at a flight attendant once the plane was in the air. The crew diverted the flight to New Orleans as a result.
Major-Lohan was charged Friday with interfering with a flight crew.
If convicted, the Boca Raton, FL resident faces a possible maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
