UPDATE: FBI: We will review Ole Miss stadium incident
Article Image > HL-Module-Article_Image Image is horizontal OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been asked to look into an incident at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium Saturday.
School officials asked for the federal review when a video apparently showing a temporary officer punched a fan during the Ole Miss - LSU game November 21.
The man has been identified on social media posts at Chris Barnes of Oxford.
He was booked into the Lafayette County jail and released four hours later. His friends took him to the emergency room.
Barnes' family says he suffered broken bones to the face, contusions to the eye tissue and a concussion.
FBI agents arrived on campus this afternoon to begin the review.
UPD Chief Tim Potts says further information will not be released until the investigation is completed.
New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson confirms one of the officers involved works for his department.
He says the officer was off-duty and working for University police when the incident occured.
Robertson says the officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay.
STATEMENT FROM OLE MISS:
The University of Mississippi Police Department has asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation to conduct an independent investigation of the incident involving a temporary officer and a fan during the Ole Miss-LSU football game on Nov. 21. FBI officials arrived on campus this afternoon to begin their review. No additional information will be available until the investigation is complete.
"We do not tolerate violent behavior on our campus, and our request for an independent FBI investigation should make it clear that we are taking this situation very seriously,” UPD Chief Tim Potts said.

The FBI is in touch with the University of Mississippi Police Department. We will review the incident and all pertinent faces and consult with the United States Attorney's Office on the appropriate course of action.
STATEMENT FROM NEW ALBANY POLICE POLICE CHIEF CHRIS ROBERTSON:
"I have been informed by the University of Mississippi Police Department that they are investigating an incident said to have involved a New Albany police officer at the football game on Saturday. The officer was not on duty with our department on Saturday and was employed at the time by the University’s police department.
