Memphis/Southaven Group calls for shopping at only black owned businesses during Christmas season

MEMPHIS, Tenn.

A group of activists are calling for local Memphians and others around the Mid-South to boycott Christmas.

At a news conference held on the grounds of the National Civil Rights Museum on Tuesday, the Just or Else Local Organizing Committee of Memphis and Southaven announced they would be taking part in a national economic boycott to protest the injustice of police brutality and murder in Memphis and throughout the country.

“We have to find a way to redistribute the pain,” said Minister Farrakhan, as he quoted Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during his Justice Or Else! address.

“You’re either going to treat us right, or we’re going to withdraw from you our economic support. We intend to boycott Christmas but not Jesus,” Minister Farrakhan said.

The group is also advocating only shopping at black owned businesses during this time period.

The boycott will start on Black Friday and run through January 2, 2016.
