Shipt announced today it will begin offering same-day grocery delivery Dec. 2 from Publix stores in Huntsville and Madison. The expansion will create more than 100 "shopper" positions to handpick and deliver orders to customers.
"Our team could not be more excited to launch Shipt in a market in our own backyard, and to provide a new convenience to Huntsville, a city known for its innovation," Bill Smith, founder and CEO of Shipt, said.
To use the service, customers can select products using Shipt's mobile app, which is available for free download in the App Store and Google Play. The app allows users to choose specific items, including produce, meat and perishables, and leave notes with preferences or substitutions.
Shipt said deliveries can occur as soon as one hour after ordering, depending on shopper availability. Customers receive unlimited grocery deliveries through the purchase of a $99 annual membership or monthly fee of $14.
A pre-launch price of $49 for a one-year membership will be available before Dec. 2. Orders over $35 come with unlimited free delivery. Shipt prices vary from grocery store prices by about $5 per $35 order.
