'Feeding frenzy' of 50-60 sharks near Panama City Beach captured on video

Bay County, FL

See link below for video

A vacationing family taking in the sights near Panama City Beach were caught off guard over the weekend when a large swarm of sharks approached the shoreline.

A video of the afternoon encounter, posted to YouTube by a woman identified as Tyra W., starts out calmly enough, with just a few sharks splashing in the distance as a young boy in an inner tube quickly paddles himself toward shore.

A small crowd gathers as the swarm swims closer and, about halfway through the video, smaller sharks enter the shallow water along the shore. One man is seen in the video approaching a shark that nearly beaches itself; he appears to be trying to help it back into deeper water.

Bystanders can be heard telling others in the water to swim to shore as a man's voice is heard estimating 50 to 60 sharks in the group.

The woman who posted the video on Sunday describes the location as the public beach access for Inlet Beach, between Rosemary and Carillon beaches. Inlet Beach is about 15 miles west of Panama City Beach.

She said the sharks were everywhere.

"And it happened so fast. So glad we got the kids out when we did," the woman wrote.
