NWS: Mid-week severe weather produced 4 tornadoes in Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — The National Weather Service (NWS) says it believes tornadoes touched down in Winston, Pontotoc and Lowndes counties during Wednesday's storms.

A team of meteorologists visited those counties Thursday to check out the damage.

According to one group from Jackson, an EF1 tornado touched down 10 miles west-southwest of Louisville around 12:45 a.m. at McCool and Shiloh roads. It traveled nearly two miles, cutting a path of damage 150 yards wide. The wind reached its peak at 105 miles an hour. Yieldmo In-Content Mobile
Yieldmo In-Content Tablet Four minutes earlier, an EF 1 tornado dropped to the ground 14 miles west-southwest of Louisville south of Hinze Baptist Church. It traveled more than two miles and left behind a trail of damage that was 300 yards wide. The peak wind reached 104 miles an hour.

A group from Memphis found that at 1:06 a.m., an EF0 tornado struck three miles east of Algoma and touched down intermittenly as it moved toward Belden for more than nine miles. Its peak wind was 75 miles an hour. The damage path was 250 yards wide.

The Lowndes County tornado touched down just outside Columbus Air Force Base along Highway 45 before 4 a.m. and dissipated after crossing Spruill Road. It's classified as an EF0 tornado with a top wind of 85 miles an hour. It went more than two miles, and its damage path was 50 yards wide.
