Dangerous Jackson II: O'Reilly Auto Parts worker executed when he couldn't open safe
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)
Chilling new details about the murder of a Jackson auto parts worker were released by Jackson Police on Thursday.
Thirty-six year old Broderick Smith was working in the O'Reilly Auto Parts store on Livingston Road when he was shot and killed during a robbery.
During a news conference Thursday, Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance was visibly angry when talking about the robbers who killed Smith. According to his family, Smith had moved to Jackson 8 months ago after working in a managers position at the auto parts store chain in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Police are asking the public to help identify the robbers who are still at large.
"The citizens of Jackson can't accept this as business as usual," said Vance. "The Jackson police department will not accept this as business as usual and we're calling up on anybody because somebody out there knows who these people are."
New details from police reveal Smith was ordered to open the store safe, but he didn't know the combination. That's when police say the masked gunmen opened fire. "One suspect yelled at the other suspect, shoot the "MF" and then he proceeded to the back, and he shot him as well. Completely heinous. Completely uncalled for; just a cold blooded cowardly act perpetrated against the individual who was at work trying to make a living."
Police don't know the identities of the robbers, but believe they robbed two other businesses on Northside Drive in the last month; a Texaco gas station and an Autozone.
"I would hope that something would influence them to turn themselves in, and I would hope they would realize the value of somebody else's life and I hope they realize how much damage they've done to somebody's family," said Vance.
