Man orders deputy to shoot him, and receives his wish

DESTIN — A young man ordered an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy to shoot him, and the deputy did – but not with his gun.

The incident took place Nov. 7 outside a business on Main Street in Destin. The arrest report indicates Matthew Sean Madden, 21, of Destin, was being “physically aggressive” with people and was being restrained by another person.

Madden was seen getting into a tow truck. A deputy stopped the truck and Madden jumped out and challenged another deputy. “The defendant placed his hand inside his waistband indicating he might be armed and yelled, ‘Shoot me,’ ’’ the deputy wrote in the arrest report.

Madden was told to get on the ground, but didn’t. When a deputy tried to take him into custody Madden allegedly pulled away, took a swing at the deputy and then ran.

“The defendant was taken into custody after a Taser was deployed” the deputy wrote in the report.

Madden is charged with assault on an officer or firefighter, and resisting arrest with violence. His court date is Dec. 8.
