Grand jury: Woman killed husband, attempted to kill mother

COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) - A Lowndes County grand jury has indicted a mother and daughter in connection to a New Hope slaying.

The Commercial Dispatch reported (http://bit.ly/1QAHclI) Thursday that Christina Martinez has been indicted for the June slaying of her husband, Manuel Vasquez. Her mother, Lydia Martinez, is charged with accessory after the fact, with investigators saying she attempted to cover up the killing.

According to court documents, authorities believe Vasquez died around June 24. His remains were burned and scattered in his yard.

Christina Martinez also faces an additional charge of domestic violence aggravated assault, after the grand jury found evidence to charge Christina Martinez with attempting to poison her mother with anti-freeze. Lydia Martinez was rescued by authorities on July 22 after they found her unresponsive.

It's unclear if the women have attorneys.
