‘Criminals For Gun Free Zone’ Protest Held At University of South Alabama

Mobile, AL

Students gathered at the Student Center on South Alabama's campus to protest the university's "gun-free zone".

In 2015, 52 schools were the target of an active shooter, 21 of those were either a college or a university.

Currently, only eight states have provisions allowing the carrying of concealed weapons on public college campuses.

In the wake of recent college campus shootings across the country, a group of students at the University of South Alabama want a change in the schools “No Weapons On Campus” policy.

Members of the ‘University of South Alabama Students For Concealed Carry’ held a ‘Criminals for Gun Free Zone’ protest at South Alabama’s campus today.

Group members dressed as criminals, wearing orange jump suits and bandanas covering their faces, to send their message. The group believes that disarming permit holders won’t stop criminals from bringing guns onto campus.

Members said that they would all feel safer if they were allowed to bring their weapon with them to school.

The group has filed a petition, with 800 signatures, to the SGA asking them to consider a resolution. The resolution would ask the school administrators to look into changing the current firearms policy in place at the school.
