Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel tweets support of players on strike

Columbia, MO

Missouri coach Gary Pinkel tweeted his support for a group of players currently boycotting university president Tim Wolfe on Sunday.

Pinkel tweeted a photo of the football team with the caption, “The Mizzou Family stands as one. We Are united. We are behind our players.”

Saturday, a group of black players on the Tigers announced they would not take part in any football activities until school president Tim Wolfe was removed or removed from his position. Wolfe has come under fire on campus for his handling of several racial controversies on campus.

After Pinkel’s tweet, cornerback Anthony Sherrills tweeted “the coaches and administration” are behind us. The players are expected to release a statement Sunday, reports the Columbia Missourian’s Aaron Reiss. Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon said “concerns must be addressed” in regards to the situation.

The Tigers’ next game is on Nov. 14 at home against BYU.
