Prosecutors: Rape victim was unconscious, Spanish Fort running back apologized in 'arrogant'
Spanish Fort, AL
Spanish Fort High School student Cameron Harrison, 18, has been charged with the first degree rape of a girl that was unconscious, according to Baldwin County assistant district attorney Chalea Tisdale at Thursday morning's arraignment.
The alleged rape occurred at a house party that involved underage drinking, Tisdale said.
Prosecutors said the 16-year-old victim was unconscious when the assault occurred.
Harrison, a running back for Spanish Fort High School's football team, reportedly apologized to the teenage girl and her family after the incident in an "arrogant' manner, prosecutors added.
Prosecutors asked for a $100,000 bail, but the judge granted $45,000.
Upon release on bond, Harrison must wear an ankle bracelet that has a GPS sensor and be confined to his home until trial.
He is also banned from Spanish Fort High School.
Harrison was set to play in the 6A high school football playoffs this weekend.
Under Alabama state law, first degree rape is a class A felony.
First degree rape occurs when there is forcible compulsion or if "he or she engages in sexual intercourse with a member of the opposite sex who is incapable of consent by reason of being physically helpless or mentally incapacitated."
Harrison's brother spoke out via social media Wednesday night, asking for prayers.
The girl is reportedly receiving threats online that police are monitoring.
Daphne Police spokesman Jason Vannoy said that any harassment of witnesses or the victim will be taken seriously and could face prosecution.
"If everyone else is seeing it, so are we," Vannoy said.
