Former UAB quarterback Sam Hunt wins songwriter/artist of the year at ASCAP Awards
Nashville, TN
UAB Quarterback turned country music star Sam Hunt is doing alright this awards season.
Hunt not only won Songwriter/Artist of the year at the 53rd annual ASCAP Country Music Awards Monday Night, but he wrote four of the 46 most-played country songs of the year.
One of those songs - "Leave the Night On" - also won song of the year. It already won Hunt the breakthrough video of the year award at the 2015 CMT Music Awards.
Hunt's "Take Your Time" was also one of the year's most-played songs. Hunt was a writer on Billy Currington's "We Are Tonight" and Keith Urban's "Cop Car," which both made the top 46.
Hunt is nominated for three awards at Wednesday night's County Music Association awards in Nashville.
"It's really special," Hunt told Billboard on the nominations. "It's interesting to see our songs in the same conversation with all these other great songs."
